Question Numbness & tight feeling in feet & toes?

Have numbness & tight feeling in feet & toes. Had an x-ray of lower back. Radiologist's report noted slight scoliosis and heavy vascular calcification.

Am trying to do research on the Internet and cannot determine if the two are related and could this be the cause of the foot problems (especially heavy vascular calcification)?

It could be related but you wouldn't be able to definitely tell from just a plain xray. Vascular calcification could cause lack of bloodflow to your legs which could be causing numbness. But again, just because there is calcification seen on xray doesn't mean you have an actual blockage.

Re: Numbness & tight feeling in feet & toes?

I normally post on the back board, but happened to see your post.

My first signs of lumbar problems occurred around 2000 with tingling and a bit of numbness in toes, and a feeling I describe as having a tight elastic along the bottom of foot -- a tight feeling. Because it was in both feet, and because I went to my mom's podiatrist when I was visiting her, I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. I never had any tests...but repeated to my PCP that I had been diagnosed with PN.

In 2004 I started developing sciatic pain. It was after my first surgery in 2008 that a doctor asked me about my neuropathy...and how it was diagnosed. He ordered an EMG and we discovered I had never had neuropathy, but the numbness and pain were the first signs of early nerve compression at the L5 level.

I think the only way you will have a diagnosis is to have further testing. Many of these symptoms can come from a variety of causes.

Good luck to you in finding some answers.

Terteri - what was the name of the procedrue they did for the nerve compression at L5? Did it help with the foot and leg symptoms that you had? And, thank you for responding to my post.
