After surgery and recovery Hubby thinks I will be...

Hi,
I don't think my dear husband gets this surgery. I don't have it til Dec 31 but I told him from what I have read I doubt I will be cooking or doing much else for a little while anyway. He thinks I should be up and going and doing things in maybe a week. I am not saying it isn't possible but he even said maybe after three days you can get back to doing things. I thought I don't think so....
and he isn't interested in reading anything I show him. Don't get me wrong he is a good person I just don't think he gets it.
He overheard the doctor say when I was in there mine foot wasn't that bad but he wasn't referring to my bunion.... it was something else.
So I think he may still think this will be as easy as can be to get over. The doctor told me he was going to take the bone and remove it and the V wedge out and put a pin or a screw in. I don't think my husband heard that part. I did tell him about the surgery though.
How many got casts on and how many got a walking shoe on or whatever they call that? My neighbor had a cast on by this same doctor so I figure he will do that for me too. Mine is worse than hers was she said.Thanks. Polly

Seems that each doctor does what he thinks best. As for cooking meals...I have not fixed even one since my surgery 3 weeks ago. Cooking and crutches don't mix at all. I am back to working full time (only had 2 1/2 days off). When I come home, I am exhausted.

Hi,
I stay at home but I doubt I will be up to cooking much at first. I think hubby will realize how it is really when I get this done. Thanks. Hope you are getting along well. Polly

It must be a guy thing. My husband certainly treated this as "no big deal" before my surgery> I've had a bilateral bunionectomy and my right foot redone. I want to have my left foot redone in February. We have 3 kids. It would have helped if he would have commited to helping. He didn't make the commitment, but he did help a lot. He had no choice. I did not cook for 6 weeks. I was told "no weight" for 6 weeks. I agree that cooking and crutches don't mix.

Good luck. In some ways the guys have the right attitude-it will all get done.

I had an austin bunionectomy (shave bone/break & put a permenant screw in at joint of big toe). My boyfriend and co-workers thought it was not a big deal either. I was on crutches for 1.5 weeks after that I was back to cooking small meals and so forth. At 2.5 weeks I was going stir crazy and was back to cleaning/vacumming/doing laundry. I am at 4 weeks post op and feel fine - I get my foot cast off today and transition into a flexible shoe. Just a note - men tend to not think any surgery is a big deal till heaven for bid they even get an ingrown toe-nail or a headache and they are the biggest babies - don't worry its not just your husband its all mankind You just wait till you do recover and then they realize just how much you do around the house and will be overjoyed you are back to normal.
