How long between bunion surgeries? - Foot Problems Message Board

I am a week post op from having bunion surgery. I feel like so far everything has gone great and I am already thinking about having my other foot done.

How long have others waited between surgeries?

I was thinking about having the left foot done sometime between Christmas and New Year. Is that too soon? Mt Dr. seemed to think that is do-able?

Any other opinions or experiences?

I had bunion surgery on September 15 on my right foot. I hope to have my left foot re-done in February. Since mine is a re-do I had 5 pins and 5 screws in. Everybody is different. I feel anxious too to get this over with. My right foot is still not good enough to be my "good" foot. I was not allowed any weight on my right foot for 8 weeks and it will take me a while to get my strenght back. Good luck!

I had my right foot done on September 12 and my left foot done November 7.
I waited 8 weeks. I went home in a hard soled walking shoe both times and could hobble around right away I used crutches for 1 week with the right foot and only 2 day with the left foot. My right foot has been a little more bothersome probably because it is having to be the dominate foot. So far my experience hasn't been that bad, but I know everyone is different.

I am still having trouble with my first surgery which was done in November of 2002. I think you need to listen to your doctor. If he says you are doing OK and are ready for another surgery...go for it. I had to have surgery a second time on the same foot 7 weeks after the first surgery. I am still working on the same foot...4th surgery...new doctor.

Hi,
I'm new at this, but I have been reading these message boards since I had my bunion surgery in Nov.I had my right foot done first and I'm also wondering how long to wait to have my left one done. My Doctor says lets focus on healing the right one first.

I have alot of pain now in my left foot, I think it is due to favoring my right one.I also go back to work on the 19th of Jan.I stand and walk all day from 9-6. Then come home and take care of my 3 children.Oh boy this should be fun.Any suggestions or comments feel free to reply
