Shoe recommendation-Lisfranc - Foot Problems Message Board

I had a lisfranc fracture to my right foot about four months ago. I am in a cam walker. I will have screws and pins removed surgically in about two weeks. The doctor said after that I should be able to wear a shoe with an orthodic for short periods of time. I know New Balance makes a "roomy shoe" that may accomodate the swelling over my arch. Does anyone else know of a specific shoe brand that is roomier around the arch? thanks

NB is probably your best bet, but Reebok also makes (some) wide width shoes. They seem harder to find in stores though. A GREAT brand is Merrell. They make outdoor/hiking type of shoes and boots, and are roomy. You will probably have to remove the insole, no matter what brand you get.

One thing I have learned throughout my ordeal with foot problems is to avoid all cheap budget shoes.

New Balance, Reebok and Nike are all very good brands of sneakers. As far as shoes are concerned, Rockports are probably your best bet. I have found that the New Balance 608 sneakers give me very good arch support and are available in a variety of widths. I get them from Wissoda Trader, a mail order place. It sounds like you need a wider width and might even want ot go with a larger size as well.

I had a lisfranc dislocation in 1999, and have been through many pairs of shoes. I was told after my surgery that I would have to wear "laced" shoes the rest of my life, and that has been correct!!! I can hardly walk without the support of the laced shoes.
I always use Reebok DMX. They come in wide (had to go to wide after the accident). They have the best arch that I have been able to find. I always have a new pair in the closet, in case I have to "put on dressy clothes!!!"
