I just wanted to report on my 6 week post op appt. My podiatrist told me that the bones are about as strong as they are going to be at this point and they are almost 100% healed and that the alignment looks great!
He told me that I should start walking normally now, putting pressure on the front of my feet and bending my toes normally instead of walking flat-footed. He said that at this point I don't need to worry about damaging the bone and that it's just soft tissue that needs to heal. He said I can walk barefoot a little, but he still thinks I should stay in the tennis shoe. I can wear other shoes and resume normal activities as it is comfortable for me.
I need to work on my big toe's flexibility. He said that he's seen better, but he's also seen worse. Walking normally is going to help with the flexibility a lot.
He told me not to worry about my big toe slanting in towards the other toes. He said that what they are doing is normal and even if I wear a toe spacer, it will drift back when I don't have the spacer on and put my feet in shoes. The bunions are not reforming!
So, all in all I'm feeling much better about things, and finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!
