| Re: How long did you splint toes after bunionectomy I am at 4 wks?
when I went for my 4 weeks follow up appt (that was 2 1/2 weeks ago), I had a doctor who was new and said, things look good, you can wear a regular shoe instead of the surgical shoe, now let's get you the Darco splint, but the office did not have any and said that the other doctors in the group didn't use any splint at all.
My doc was surprised and said the darco splint was really good to use.
So podiatrists are all over the map about splint use (what a surprise)
I ordered both Bort and Darco splint online (I have so many supplies all related to my foot it's crazy, the multiple splints, bandages, toe spacers, creams, sports tape, ace compression bandages, oils) and am still wearing them once I get out of my work shoes (almost 7 weeks now postop) but I am just super paranoid about the bunion reforming and it gives my still tender foot some support. I guess I will gradually wean off the splint after a while (maybe just at night for example) as things stabilize and my foot feels better
If your foot looks and feels fine then maybe you won't need it, but I definitely think the splints, bandageing, and toe spacers helped my foot maintain its alignment.
