2 Week Post-Op - Foot Problems Message Board

This morning I had my 2 week post-op appointment. Doctor said the incision looks great!

But for some reason a couple of my toes still look bruised even though I've been elevating my foot practically 24/7. Anyway, she said I can start applying some weight little by little, which I did some today. It actually makes me laugh a little because applying any pressure on the bottom of my foot feels very ticklish. Hopefully that'll go away soon because sometimes the "tickling" is too strong. She also said that I can shower (finally!), but I'm not too sure I can balance myself do that, yet. I'll probably keep bathing with my foot outside, and then carefully wash my foot separately. (She said not to soak it yet, so I can't bathe with my foot.)

As far as pain goes, I don't have any as long as my foot is elevated, though every 30 minutes or so I get a prickling sensation around my incision. However, if I'm standing still for a while with my foot down, I start feeling lots of prickling on my toes, followed by general pain. So I'm still elevating and icing.

Next appointment... 2 weeks from now...

my whole foot was purple for a very long time. I bled a lot after surgery (from wiggling my toes like a moron right after the operation) so my foot was a gigantic bruise even down my arch to the heel.

Hang in there! - the next 2 weeks (months) get very tiresome limping around

Oh wow, that's definetly a lot of bruising... I hope it's all gone by now. ;-) I just tried applying some weight on my foot, but I'm afraid of stepping too hard... It feels like my entire foot will explode--almost as if I was stepping on a water balloon! Should I just keep applying more and more weight?

I just did a search on this board for "explode" and found several good threads on applying weight after surgery... Thanks for those previous posts!

Just try not to rotate too much to the outer portion of your foot. Unfortunately the ortho-wedge shoe allows you to do that, and believe me, if you get used to compensating like that, you're doing yourself no favors. My ankle is still recovering from walking like that for weeks, before the doctor said to stop doing it.
