Air Boot Question

Yesterday 6 weeks after surgery I was given an air boot to wear for a month. I am wondering if any of you were able to exercise w/it, walking, etc. How do you know what's too much if you have no discomfort---this boot is so protective that I probably tend to walk around more than I should. It's so exciting to finally be off of crutches. But, I wonder HOW much one can safely walk----say a couple blocks over your lunch hour? I also wonder why do some doctors choose an air boot over the smaller casts? Any opinions are always welcome.

What kind of surgery did you have Ann? I had a Lisfranc repair and was also given an airboot at 6 weeks. I still have alot of swelling and achiness. I walk as little as possible. But I am back in martial arts doing strictly groundwork. (Blocks, punches, kicks from a side lying position, and of course sit ups and pushups on my knees. ) I'm actually testing for my yellow belt on Saturday...all from the ground, although I will be walking slowly through 2 forms in the boot.

Hi Kathy-----so do you walk as little as possible because of the achiness or did your doctor tell yu too. I had bunion/hammertoe on March 2nd and was on crutches for 6 weeks and now the big air boot for a month. I have picked up my exericse but am doing it on crutches so I don't overdue it w/my foot. I think it's great that you are doing Karate------interesting that you can do it lying down. I strap on 5 pound weights and do leg lifts on the floor. Good luck on the yellow belt---let us know how you do!!

Re: Air Boot Question

I'm walking as little as possible because it hurts, and I really am afraid of reinjury if I do too much too quickly. But I didn't have bunion surgeyr.. I dislocated 5 bones in my foot in a car accident in Feb, and they are currently being held in place with 4 screws and a plate.

So I sure don't want to overdo and set my recovery back.

I will let you know how my test goes tomorrow!!!

Re: Air Boot Question

I have a question for you all. I am in a CAM walker. Is that the same thing as an air boot?

Thanks,
jdm
