question about plantar warts - Foot Problems Message Board

i have on both my feet a spot that looks like plantar warts.my dr told me they were callouses,and he did surgery to shave some of the bone off under it so there wouldnt be so much pressure on it. well they never went away.actually they are worse.i had another dr tell me they were plantar warts.but my dr says no. how can i tell if they are? and what can i do to get rid of them? thank you

What kind of Dr. are you seeing? Plantar warts can look like callouses but have a core you should be able to see. A Dr. should be able with a scaple scrape off the top layer and find a core if they are a plantars wart. Do a search on the Internet and you find pictures and info regarding them.

I had a plantars wart and it was totally different from any I had ever seen in a picture. Mine looked (at first) like a splinter. It was just a little black spot and it was sore. Then after awhile it started to look like a callus. I ended up getting mine scraped and soaked at the Dr's office once a week and putting some kind of acid like stuff on it after every shower. Had I known that surgery would have been so much quicker I probably would have done that (but I was 16 or 17 at the time). I hope it gets better for you!

I have had plantar warts before. You can identify a plantar wart b/c if you scrape away some of the skin, you should be able to see little black dots. At least that's how it was for me. Making them go away can be really difficult - I had laser surgery, and it came back really fast. Then I used acid pads (sticker-like) and soaked them every night which finally removed them. Then I got another one which the doctor tried to remove by burning it out, which didn't work. Then I tried freezing it at a dermatologist's office, which helped. Ultimately, I think I got it to go away by using the acid medication from the doctor and then covering it with a small square of ace bandage. Supposedly, it needs air to survive so covering it and not letting it breathe helps kill it. My friend used duct tape to cover it, which she said helped. My ordeal with one lasted 2 years and another lasted 3 years. Feel free to ask me any questions. Good luck.
