| partial tear of the flexor hallucis longus
Hi, I am new here but I am glad that I found this board. About 5 months ago I sprained/rolled my ankle while playing basketball. I was over in the Czech Republic for a missions trip. This happened about halfway though the trip, so I did not recieve any medical care until about a month after injury. I was not able to walk right, I was walking on the outside of my foot. Finally I saw a doc and it was diagnosed at a high ankle sprain. I was on crutches for 2 weeks and then took myself off them because I couldn't stand it any more. THe doc braced me and then put me in a boot because it wasnt getting any better. I was in a boot for for 3 weeks and then an MRI was ordered. It showed edema and also a partial tear of the flexor hallucis longus. I was kept in the boot for another 3 weeks. I have been out of the boot for about 2 months now. My pain has not decreased at all, if any thing it has gotten worse. The doc injected the tendon with cortisone about a month ago, but has referred me out to see a foot and ankle specialist. He think that I need to have surgery to release the sheath over the tendon. He think that it has scared down from the healing process, and it didn;t heal as it should have. Has anybody heard of this or had it done. Thanks for all your help,
Liz
