Hi!
I had surgery at the end of May for an Achilles tendon lengthening, subtalar fusion, calcaneocuboid fusion, and re-building of some fused (the wrong way) bones. Then, I had hardware removal on December 2nd; had a long screw, a shorter, thin screw, and a washer out (I still have one smaller, thin screw inside, it was too hard to reach through a small incision).
Went to my doctor on December 13th. Had stitches out and x-rays look great! My foot feels better than it has in years!
I have some mighty nasty scars, though. Two (one big one that looks like a picket fence and one small one) on the side of my foot, one heck of a thick scar on my heel (he re-opened the old incisiion), and one up the back of my calf, which is pretty mild and not a real concern.
The scar on my heel is, by far, the worst. The skin on my heels is extremely tough from years of walking barefoot everywhere (the beach, hot asphalt, EVERYWHERE) as a kid. My heel skin is so tough that I can walk across glass and it just drops right off without cutting me. The scar on my heel is very, very thick and hard.
It was suggested that I get some kind of massage cream and massage my scars. Can anyone recommend some good scar massage creams?
It's getting intimidating looking at all the stuff that's out there. I want to hear from some people who have used various creams and had good results. I'm not as concerned with how they look, but I would like them to be softer and smoother.
So, any suggestions?
I hope everyone is well and enjoying their holiday season!
