Though so many points have already been addressed, I'm wondering (since my surgery is scheduled for 1/21), if you could do it again, are there any questions you wish you had asked your doc before having your bunionectomies?

"How many of these procedures have you done?"
"What is your relapse/recurrence rate?"
"How likely would a recurrence be for me and what might cause it (or how do you prevent it)?"
"Is there something I could do that will speed recovery?"
"Is there something I might do that would hinder recovery or cause a relapse?"

"How often will I be seeing you after surgery?"
"Do you usually have your patients have physical therapy and when?"

After a few weeks they usually start having you bend the toe some to prevent adhesions. Ask exactly WHAT you need to do and how often. I followed my instructions to the letter except where this was concerned, and it was my misunderstanding that has caused some problems regaining mobility (but I'm getting it back now -- thank goodness, just lots of extra work!)

Thank you all so much! I'm really lucky to have found these boards right when I needed them.

My pod is the greatest. He's been wonderful about answering my questions - a lot of which he can't answer before operating; once he gets in there he'll see how much cartilege he has to work with and whether or not he'll be able to straighten my toe & prevent "flip-flop foot".
