pain in the joint of my big toe

I've been having pain in the middle joint of my right big toe. The pain doesn't go away until I pop it by curling my toes and pressing down on the floor. The pain comes back soon after and I have to do that again to get relief. I don't really experience the pain unless I curl my toes or put pressure on my big toe. I was wondering if anyone knew of something I could do to prevent this from happening or what's going on? Thanks.
