Depends what you're having done - I was OUT for my bunion surgery - it's SURGERY!
Podiatrist, all the way. Orthos work on everything: legs, arms - BIG areas. Feet have small bones and tendons, etc. You want someone who specializes in these little parts of the feet. You want someone who works on feet 100% of the time, not maybe 25%.
Yes, it depends on what type of surgery you are having.If it is bunion they may give you the option.Also I had many different opinions Ortho/podi. and chose the podiatrist for all of my surgeries.Good luck!
Talk to your Dr...if you want to be out they can do that...I had a block but with IV sedation so I dont remember a thing. My opinion...Pod. I always went with the pod and i have had 5 surgeries on my foot. Some people say ortho...we all have our own thoughts, just feel 100% comfortable with whomever you choose! Hope all goes well!
I was out for my surgery. I was given a choice of spinal or general but I guess it depends on what kind of surgery you are having. I originally saw a Podiatrist because that is who I was referred to. He had the MRI done as well as x-rays but after he got the results back he told me that the injury I had required a more complicated surgery than he could do. He referred me to an OS that only did feet and ankles. I was happy with the OS and have dealt with him ever since.
I say it is a matter of personal choice - pod or os. However if you go os, go with one who specializes in feet. My first two surgeries were with a podiatrist. My third was with an os who only does feet and ankles.
I'm hoping to have this morton neuroma "cut" out that I have been dealing with for the past three years.
I love my orthopaedic surgeon (7 knee surgeries with him) but I just don't know if he is the best for my foot. He's injected it with cortisone a couple of times - OUCH!!!!! but as far as operating I'm not sure. I'm scheduled to see him Monday so I am just going to be blunt and ask him.
I have had a spinal w/minimal sedation (ie. i could carry on a conversation) and loved it, and that was for ankle surgery. I love my pod, only wish he could do my ankle surgeries and not just my toes... But if your os did your knees, he's probly not the one for your ankle. I have the best sports med os, but no way is he coming at my feet, even if he is somewhat qualified, see an ankle/foot os if you want an MD.. But I would go w/a pod.
