2 weeks post op today - MORE QUESTIONS! - Foot Problems Message Board

Hello everyone!

Yesterday I went to work and last night was my most difficult and painful night! My foot really, really hurt - but it is doing better today and I am staying off it as much as possible. I unwrapped it for the first time last night and the whole foot was black & blue and SWOLLEN. This was my first chance to really see my foot outside of the dressing/stitches removal at the doctors office. It is very weird to see my foot, because it doesn't look like my foot! Even though it is swollen, it is MUCH narrower than my other, not so bad, left foot! It really looks very different side by side. My big toe looks good, but toe number toe is way up in the air! I did have surgery on that toe as well, and I hope it will come down!

Today I was able to take my first shower without bandages. It was a little difficult to balance myself on my heel - and made me somewhat nervous, but I did it! Yea me!!

Okay, questions: The doctor gave instructions on how to wrap my foot the way he wants me too. (separating the big toe to stay straight). How long did you all keep your foot wrapped up? At what point did you just wear a sock and no wrap? Did the shape of your feet change a whole lot?

I was wrapped for over a month. After I went into a real sneaker, I just wore a sock to see my doctor, and since it was swelling a bit, had me keep wrapping it. Turns out the swelling lasts an extra, extra, extra long time! I think it depends on your amount of swelling, and your incision/scar.

I'm still wrapping a tiny bit, with Coban (the really thin, stretchy bandage) just for swelling. Actually, today they gave me compression socks. That should help a lot.

hey feet first
I am 2 weeks post op today too,,, i could not even imagine going into work!!!!!!!! I'm still in pj's most of the time.
I have a "toe spacer" they gave me to place between my great toe and second toe to keep them apart.
I don't plan on working for at least 4 more weeks

Lou, with your job it would be IMPOSSIBLE to work. I am very lucky that I only need to go in once a week, and just for a couple hours... but once I get there they always seem to have a problem and I spend more time then expected.

Last night was a better night.. and today I am home again, back to the same old TV, Web, Reading routine!
