I am now 5 weeks post op( cheilectomy, osteotomy- modified Youngswick with a screw )- in a men's shoe - cannot believe the size of my foot and leg at the end of the day - how long does this swelling last?

GIRL, a while!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am almost 4 months post op and still have some swelling! My doc told me the swelling can last as long as 6 months for some but its TOTALLY NORMAL, so don't panic. Icing it and elevating reallyl helps!

Thanks for the info. My family laughs - first thing I do when I get home is head for the refrigerator for ice and the recliner to elevate -supper waits. Then I put on my surgical shoe (which I use to hate) and it feels wonderful. My son graduates from college on May 21st - I was hoping for sandals or something by then. Time will tell.

Terri--We all want the swelling to go away. My first surgery this year 1/10 still swells and is red like a big hunk of liver. I did the same thing with the ice and recliner after I got home from work the 3-4 weeks I had between surgeries. The kids would look at me and say, "What are you doing--what about dinner?" Sorry, foot had to come first!!! My daughter graduates from college June 9 , my son from high school June 8. I'm just hoping to not have a cast on my most recent surgery foot on 4/4. I have so many scars I know my sandals won't be the cute strappy ones for sure. Won't next summer be great??
