Scars from bunionectomies...how bad are they? - Foot Problems Message Board

Just wondering, for those of you who've had the bunionectomies, how bad the scars are? How long? Do they go away? Are they noticeable? Does it affect what shoes you decide to wear? I would love to wear some nice sandals in a few years but don't know if I'll be self-conscious of scars...

My podiatrist said the scars aren't noticeable and may be a few inches long. I trust him but want info from those who've actually been there too.

I had other surgeries but in the same area. My scar is almost 3 inches long. It usually fades in a year or so. Sandles will feel weird at first but if you massage your inscion as soon as you can it really helps and they wont bother you at all. I wera whatever shoes I can and dont care if my scar shows or not. Most people dont even notice and you get so use to it you actually forget in time. how long it will be depends on your Dr and how much he needs to open it...he is telling you the truth!!! good luck!

I actually measured my scar. It's about two inches long. It's still a little early to see how dark the scar is going to be though.

I had it done on both feet and my scars never disappeared, they got darker & smoother (after using Mederma), but you can still see them.

I hate sandal shopping now, because I can't wear strappy sandals which would prominently show off the scars.

I'm considering scar removal/laser resurfacing.

My scar is dark and bumpy at the bottom but I know alot of people who have had the surgery and their scars are very faded. I am not doing a good job of remembering my scar cream though. Frankly, I don't care too much about the scar. The awful bunion is gone!!!!!
