pre operative assessment!?! - Foot Problems Message Board

i have one at the end of feb and im just wondering if anyone here has ever had one. i had a hip replacement last year and didnt have to do one and i just had a letter from the hosp saying i need to get one done. its supposedly to just have my blood pressure done and xrays and blood tests and to talk to the docs and such about my surgery and the different anesthetic options i have and stuff... is it quick and painless or what?

it says i should go to my gp if i can to get my blood pressure done.... do i have to do this as they are gonna take it while im up there. it also said to bring a dental certificate with me if im having a joint replacement, which im not having so im assuming i dont need one of them.
busy busy. just had my endoscopy done today. on a new med called aulin for my foot. its been soooo sore the last few weeks. felt i like broke it today it was that sore but now its brilliant. such relief already
anyhoo, if you have ever had a pre operative assessment can you let me know?? thanks you guys

Hello - I had this before my latest foot surgery and before one of my spine surgeries... The surgeon basically just wants you to be cleared by your doc, that you're healthy enough for surgery/anesthesia/etc. It's usually just a quick check-up - blood pressure, pulse, general health, listen to you breathing, etc. Some surgeons order them for all of their surgical patients, some do it only if you've not had a physical/check-up within the last year or so, and some don't do it at all, if they examine you enough themselves and feel confident that you're healthy enough for surgery.

So, it's really nothing to worry about - just your dr. being careful, which is a good thing.
