getting ready for surgery #4

Hi all. I'm just waiting for my next surgery this friday. I'm hoping it is my last. This is getting to be real old. This time the doc is going to open the top and the bottom of the foot. he will cut and implant any nerves that he comes across. He is also going to remove another neruoma, a soft tissue mass, scar tissue from the last surgery (5 months ago), and debride the open wound on the old incision, and then sitch it back up. I will be NWB again for another 4-5 weeks. I'm so tired of not doing anything. I can't even put the bandages on the bottom of my foot, because the other day I was removing the bandages and when the tape came off it toop the skin from the top of the foot with itl Ouch...I really said more than that lol.....This time the surgery will take 1 1/2 to 2 hours. such fun. I really hope this one works, I really want to be able to ride my horses. Just wanted to touch base will everyone again and keep you posted on what is going on.

Re: getting ready for surgery #4

Hi Mary.

I'm glad you posted - I've been following your progress as I too may be having a surgery (on May 1) that involves a plantar incision. We could recover together . The thought of walking on a scar really scares me.

If I remember correctly, your doctor told you that the first time you step down on it would hurt like h***. But didn't that turn out to be OK?

I'm curious about the implanting of the nerves. Are you still having nerve pain or is it just the wound healing that is the problem? (I didn't mean JUST).

Wishing you the best of luck and may this be your last foot surgery!!!!!! I will be thinking about you on Friday.

creative2,
You will be having surgery on Monday then. I will also be thinking of you then. That's the day I will go back and get my first bandage changed. My doc is very consevertive in his treatment. HE didn't take out the stitches until after4 weeks. Then he put steri-strips on the area, and told me I could shower, (no baths), and to wait another couple of weeks to put any weight on it. During that 2weeks period, I started walking on the heel putting a little weight on it. after the total of 6 weesks, I walked on it with crutches,(It made me feel safer), then I went to a cane. I still use the cane to help with the pressure, but that's only because I've run into problems. the most important thing is to do what your doc tells you. It was hard not putting the foot down for any reason. Going to the bathroom is hard at first, because you don't put your foot on the floor to stand up. I pulled off the molding on the door frame trying to get up. I worked out a system that used the crutches to pull up on. I tried the walker, but that wasn't stable enough.
Which foot are you having done? what has your doc. told you about afterwards? Keep me posted

What did you have done then? My scar is about 5 inches long and goes from under the toes (little and next one) down the ball of the foot down another inche or so, then towards the center of the foot by the arch. the outside of my foot stayed tender, (where he implanted the nerve in the muscle). Doc said that area would be tender for quite a while. It really isn't that tender compared with the rest of the foot. I've gotten quite used to walking with a limp. I KNOW that this surgery will fix the pain.(power of postitive thinkinglol)
