contrast dye for foot mri - Foot Problems Message Board

Diagnosed with plantar fasciitis and wanted to get an mri done. Is it normal to have contrast dye used for this type of mri? Is there really going to be any difference in the images for a foot mri?
Didnt really want to use it if not needed for cost reasons and safety.

Why are you needing a MRI for PF? I have never needed a contrast die for a foot/ankle MRI (I have had 2). Ask the reason for it if in doubt.

usually they do the dye if they think there might be some sort of blockage (or to rule out a blockage) in the blood flow. The contrast shows the veins and such better than withought.. I've had contrast done, but that was for a CT scan of the brain.. it feels REALLY weird when they give you the contrast, but it's not that bad.. they usually don't send you for contrast if it's not needed, but if you aren't sure, then ask the doctor about it.

I had plantar fasciitis a few years ago, and I just had a simple x-ray done. I had inserts for my shoes and had to have a molded plastic "boot" to wear at night. It finally cleared up. What I don't understand is why are they asking for an MRI? I find that here, in Canada, certain tests are not ordered unless absolutely necessary. We're very lucky to have Medicare, so most tests are covered.

molded plastic "boot was just for night time, like a night splint? Or could you walk around in it during the daytime?

Was wondering how long it took for your pain to resolve.
