Day 3 post-op - Foot Problems Message Board

Well, this is strange. The nerve blocks should have worn off by now, but I am having very little pain. I suppose I should be grateful, and I am, but I am also rather mystified.
So far, things are going well with my son, as far as other people keeping him occupied goes. Having said that, it does sound like my husband is about to tear out his hair.

So I guess that's it for now. Maybe next time I post, I will be in excruciating pain, so I'll actually have something interesting to say......

You will start to feel some pain when you are up and walking.. if you are in bed with the feet up..you should be almost painfree...you sound like you are doing pretty good..

Don't mark the devil on the wall!!! Excruciating pain is not interesting, but misery. Rare, but encouraging, are posts from people who aren't in abject misery a couple of days post op. Maybe you will have little trouble with it. How long are you nwb? Take care. Kim

I also had surprisingly little pain. I threw up all my pain pills the first night and found that the nausea was so much worse than the surgical pain. I took a vicodin the morning of day 2 and that was the last heavy-duty pain pill I took. After that, it was advil or aleve. After hearing stories like "a piano landing on your foot hurts less" I was dreading the pain. But honestly, it barely hurt!

Even after I started walking it wasn't too bad. It does get a little achy now and then. I do notice that my big toe will get unusually cold, so that I want to put on a sock or a blanket.

I am about 18 days post op now and find that it only hurts when I do something to make it hurt -- like bump my toe into the dishwasher! I've been getting by fine on advil or aleve, but most days nothing.

Next week I start full weight bearing so I am expecting to start feeling sore and achy.

Oh dear, I don't know what that means. Do you mean that I shouldn't jinx myself?

Actually, I am not totally NWB. This week I am to mostly stay off my feet, except for going to the bathroom. I have a follow-up on Monday, at which point I imagine I will be allowed to move around more. According to my doctor, one of the advantages of the scarf is that you *can* walk on it right away (although you may not want to). When I got up this AM, I did have some pain walking, although it wasn't too bad. Maybe I am one of the lucky ones (knocking on my wooden bed tray).
