Dr. McDreamy took out the stitches yesterday about 2 weeks after the incisions to remove the screws and smooth out the rough places where the bones by the bunions had healed and took x-rays. He said the outsides of both feet are doing fine although they are still swollen a little...normal for this stage of recovery...but he was a little disappointed that some of the bones in the smaller toes have not knitted 100% of how he would have liked to see them. He looked so glum that I had to cheer him up! He is a real perfectionist, which I can appreciate. He said the misalignments on the small toes are minor and would not cause any problems with my walking and that there is no need for any third surgery. He finally conceded my feet were....ummmm...a real challenge....and as we had discussed at the beginning, he could make my feet better, but never perfect, considering how far gone they were. I finally got him to admit he was happy that they came out as well as they did. After all, making a silk purse out of a sow's ear is an impossibility and we both came to an agreement that if I can walk without pain when everything is all healed, it will have been a job well done.

He gave me a pair of surgical sandals to wear when I am at home, but still wants me in the surgical boots if I have to leave the apartment. More support and protection and safer if someone steps on my toes (ouch!) or if I stub my toes or walk on uneven pavement.

I LOVE these surgical sandals! They are SO comfortable. Black with Velcro straps made by Darco. They don't look bad, either. In fact, I may keep wearing them even after I am able to wear real shoes! Not only do they feel great, they are only $27.50 a pair....a heck of a lot cheaper than Birkenstocks!

Next appointment with him is October 10. He says my feet should be in butt-kicking shape by the time I leave for Mexio for the winter on November 9. This has been an awesome experience!
