Hey everyone,
I have a surgery scheduled for this week and i was just curious for some input from anyone who has had foot surgery. I am getting a moderate bunion corrected and i am also getting the hammer toe on both of my second digits corrected. How long would something like that really take to heal? Two hammer toes and a bunion? My doctor says like a week of laying in bed foot propped and after that i can walk...somehow im skeptical b/c it seems there's no way i'll be walking after a week. Correct me if i'm wrong tho. thanks alot.

I can't comment too much on the particular surgery that you're having, but regarding being able to walk that soon afterwards - you'd be surprised how quickly you improve! If your doctor says you should be okay, the chances are that you will be.

I had ankle surgery and I could walk on it 2 days afterwards. It varies a lot from person to person, but obviously most people can walk after a week or so.

Well, I had a bunionectomy three weeks ago and I am still in a cast and can not walk on it. In fact, my doctor wants me to be in a cast for three more weeks and not to walk on it (use crutches, walker, wheelchair). What I am finding on this message board is that every doctor's orders are different. Good luck with your surgery and keep us posted on your recovery.

I had surgery on my foot less than a week ago. I had a Toe broken in two places and hammer toe repair on three others. I too am wearing a cast but I have managed to get around a little. Each person heals at a different rate some faster, some slower. The best advice I can give is to rest, elevate and ice as much as possible and follow your doctors directions he will know what is best for you.

Thank you everyone. that's true that everyone is different and healing will take different amounts of time in everyone. I guess i should just wait and see. I think she thinks i will heal pretty fast because i am still young. Hopefully that is the case.

I will let everyone know how it goes.
