Tarsol Colition Fusion Surgery Recorvery

A little background about me. 3months ago i had surgey on my foot for Tarsal Coalition. The doctor told me my foot was pretty messed up so he was gona do a fusion put a arch in my foot and do etc etc etc. Its going to be 3months next week since I have had the surgey and i am suppose to be getting the cam boat off. My foot is still pretty stiff and i have 0 movment of my foot left/right. But i can move it up and down pretty fine. I also still cant walk on my foot at all, I can only put a little bit of pressure on it. My questions are..

1. Do you guys have any suggestions/good exercises on how I can get more movement in my foot.
2. How are you guys recovering from your surgery? Can you walk fine without pain? Can you run?
3. I can feel and see in what i belive to be the screws in my foot on both sides..is that normal? will that go away in time? They are basically 2 lumps on either side of my foot so don't know if thats swelling or the screws.
Thanks for your time.

Re: Tarsol Colition Fusion Surgery Recorvery

I am not overly familiar with your procedure. I would definitely ask for for some physical therapy to help get some movement back into your foot and get you walking on it again. As for the screws, I'd ask about them. I would have to think if you can see them, you are goning to feel them when you are in shoes again. I would hope that the lumps you are seeing are not the screws, but are swelling.

I wish you well. ~eko

Re: Tarsol Colition Fusion Surgery Recorvery

Hi,

As you can see from my previous postings, I am also three months post subtalar fusion. For some reason this site has gone very quiet. I also was hoping for some input from people who have had this procedue. My walking boot came off almost three weeks ago. Extremely stiff. I am receiving PT but its slow. The PT is really nice but she did mention in passing that I am her first fusion she has worked on!!!

Today I had an older PT work on my ankle. It certainly feels less stiff. But of course this can all change when I get up in the morning. I do have at home exercises but nothing too intense. My OS has specifically said no high impact PT at the moment. I will see her next week and hopefully things will be okay for whatever the next stage is.

The swelling is a pain and activity still has to be in half hour increments with elevation.

Previous postings have mentioned it can take up to six months. I do not seem to be able to feel the screw. It was a concern of mine. I had only the one screw placed in my talar and the other long named Cal something.

Please please please would some of you more recovered patients post and let us know what to expect.

Desperate to start losing the pounds!!!

Re: Tarsol Colition Fusion Surgery Recorvery

Had another sesion again yesterday. Nothing different in the exercises, less swelling the last couple of days. But a little more pain! Go figure!

Another OS appointment next Friday. Will let you know how it goes. Going to see if there is another alternative PS, might have to go out of insurance though!

I hope everything is healing well. It was, but of course that was prior to no boot and crutches.

Are you still on crutches and in a boot? If so its been longer than I was.

Let us know how your session went.

Happy New Year everyone!
