| Re: Broken heels
Hi Thanos, my injury was not to the heels at all, so take what I say with skepticism.
I am also something of an alpinist, although my love is for skiing, and in my condition right now, I don't have a hope of returning. But like you I am anxiously exploring options to improve my condition.
Have your doctors determined exactly what is causing the pain? Have your doctors advised you that the activities which cause your pain will harm you in any way?
If not, then it's just useless pain, cause by a damaged body. If your activities won't harm you, then you might want to explore pain management before surgery, a TENS machine (or in your case two) might help greatly in your recovery)
What about your achiles tendon, how badly does it hurt? Mine bothers me often, usually just when I get up or after physical activity. I wonder if it's just a symptom of the lengthy time I was unable to bear weight on my right foot.
Finally, I remember talking with my surgeon about different common foot injuries, and he was telling me about the difficulty in reshaping badly broken heels, as they are nearly impossible to restore to the original shape, so hardware was always neccesary. I would be carefull about the removal of the plate.
Like I said, my injury is very different (comminuted fracture to the navicular) but hopefully I can offer something in terms of your recovery and return to
sports.
God bless,
Lorin
