| Re: BOTH FEET! Modified McBride with first metatarsal osteotomy on Thursday.
I had one foot done approximately 5 weeks ago, in Seattle, too. I removed my belly ring only after they suggested it could possbily burn me if/when they used cauterization. They would have let me keep it on, but I removed it to be safe.
I think I may have had a similar type surgery-- mine was a distal chevron osteotomy, and I am not sure what they did to the soft tissues.
Anyhow, I was told I could heel walk right after the surgery, but since the foot was fully asleep, that was not possible.. having both feet done would make it hard to manuver at first I would think.
I went back to work on crutches after 1 week, and by 2 weeks I was not on crutches anymore at all. I can walk with full pressure on my foot now, but I am still wearing a surgical shoe and my incision is finally healing up.
So you might be somewhat mobile early on, but with both feet being done at once, I can see why your doc would say 4 weeks for staying off them since you won't have a "good" foot to take most of the pressure early on.
Good luck, and let us know how you do.
