I had my double bunionectomy done on both feet yesterday morning (Thursday 3/22). (Modified McBride with metatarsal osteotomy at the base of my feet along with a realigning of my big toes above the joint). Surgery went well, I was put under for it and woke up without any pain or nausea (thanks to the little patch behind my ear and the wonderful drugs the anesthesiologist pumped into my IV). Checked in at 8:00 in the morning and got to go home around 4:00. Pain started to hit later in the evening once the anesthetic officially wore off (maybe around 8 or 9 o'clock) but only in my right foot (which was the worst one) and boy was the pain uncomfortable. However, the percocet and motrin are helping. I'm having trouble sleeping and I haven't regained my appetite, but as long as I can get through the first 48 hours (which are supposedly the worst), I'm sure I"ll live. So here begins Day #1 of not bearing any weight on my feet. Only 30 days to go!!! All in all however, so far - it's not as bad as I thought it'd be. I really prepared myself for 10 out of 10 (10 being the worst comfort and pain levels) - but I feel like I'm along the lines of a 3 or 4. I'm also quite surprised how mobile I still am - I actually managed to get myself to the bathroom by scooting on my rear and I had no problems lifting myself up to the toilet. Not bad! This was my one worry, having someone carry me to the bathroom everytime I needed to go. It's nice to know I can do it myself if need be.

P.S. Gotta love those aircasts! I don't think they could get any bulkier. And boy do my feet get really warm wearing them!
