No idea what the problem might be but I just always heard your foot would be narrower. I don't know if you'd have to get new shoes.
Maybe it's swelling, if you're newly operated?
If you're just comtemplating having it done, they have removeable casts now, but they're more expensive and you could have trouble with insurance, I hear.
This would be imperative for diabetics, I would think, needing lotion several times a day for neuropathy and dry skin. I'm an older diabetic, sometimes get an ulcer on the bunion calus, that gets infected, could cause amputation. This last time the hole closed in only 2 wks. I used to have debridement several times. New antibiotic I guess. Never heard of it before. And I worked hard at staying off of the foot as much as possible. The podiatrist had scared me half to death about amputation.
You have to use the cast 8 wks and crutches 2 more weeks???
My foot after bunion surgery is shaped differently. My big toe that had the bunion on the outside is now straight and there is a noticible space between that and the rest of my toes. I am 6 weeks post-op.
Don't worry about that, the space will close in time after you begin to wear shoes again. There is so much to worry about with this type of surgery, isn't there? It's good that we have these boards.

Thanks for giving us some insight. We need all we can get.
Yesterday I was cleaning out some old clippings I'd saved and found an article about this surgery and a new procedure requiring less healing time.
I'll find it again later, need to ask my doctor about it. There's new developments all the time in any field.
Glad you're through most of your experience and hope you're feeling great.
