Question A Fungus Problem

I have a really bad case of *something.* I scanned the board and didn't find anything like it, so here goes:
Between the 4th and 5th toe on my right foot is a scaley mess. My skin is peeling, it itches like mad a lot of the time and there seems to be a build up of dead skin (almost like a callous) under my 4th toe where it curls under. The rest of my foot and other foot are fine. Just this small area. It is also red and cracking.

I have seen pictures of athlete's foot and this looks nothing like that. It is white. My DH has chronic athlete's foot and some really groody stuff on his nails, but we have been married 10 years and I haven't had a problem until now, so I doubt I caught whatever roams the darkness of his sneakers.

Another foot question:
Any of you ever hear of someone with chronic hot foot? Both of my feet are ALWAYS bright red and hot. Not sweaty though. I can walk in snow without feeling coldness on my feet. In fact, snow feels pretty good on my feet. I have been known to take ice foot baths. They have been like this since I was in my teens (I am 40 now). It obviously isn't life threatening, but I have always wondered what it is.

Ain't the Net great?

Sounds like you have a "soft corn" between the toes, called a heloma molle. These often can cause ulcers, and infections. These can often become pretty serious. You need to see a podiatrist.

You definitely should see a podiatrist. Your "hot foot" and insensitivity could be indications of neuropathy. Have you had a blood glucose screening? If not, you should, as this could also be an indication of the onset of diabetes. Don't mean to alarm you, just a precaution to be on the safe side.

My blood sugar is fine. This has been going on since I was in my teens, anyway. And it is both my hands and my feet. I have red blotches on the palms of my hands all the time. It looks like I have been leaning on them. Ditto with the pads of my feet.

BTW, my gross foot stuff cleared up. I have no idea what it was, but it is gone now.

Re: A Fungus Problem

Hello and please excuse my stating my case instead of replying, but I have almost EXACTLY to what mrsphiz has:

Fierce itching on the 4th and 5th toes, usually before going to bed and on it. But I don't seem to have the cracks, dryness, oozing, scaling, peeling, that I read elsewhere. Just a little reddish between these toes...AND the maddening, intolerable, fierce itching!

I changed dermatologists about 4 times because they'd ignore my pointing to this concern. One of them (crazy!) prescribed Ketoconazole Cream 2% for what seemed like a mild eczema on my forehead which he diagnosed as fungus, and which disappeared even before applying it! So when I saw MY toe symptoms in the Internet called fungus, I decided to apply this Keto thing 3 times a day and hope it will work. If not, I may try the other medicines I see in the internet forums, including vinegar... I hesitate to take anything by mouth to avoid side effects.

I go to a podiatrist 3 or 4 times a year for routine examination, cut nails, etc., free from my health insurance, and I also change these to see which one I'm more comfortable with...you'd thing one of them would discover this condition. True, I didn't mention it to them as I thought it was something for a dermatologist being this is only on a skin. I'll have to see a podiatrist (though I didn't find one I like yet) and definitely point this to him or her.

If anyone has any other good medicines, including home made, or other suggestions I'll appreciate it a lot. I wish good luck to all of us! Rosedala

P.S. I also read somewhere that athlete's foot can appear on the scalp. My scalp since a year or 2 has been itching a lot all over the head despite my having changed shampoos, conditioners, etc., I wonder if athlete's foot is what I have on my head too??? Arghhhhh!!!
