I have a question. I had my surgery 7 yrs ago, I had just given birth.
Now all of a sudden I have been having problems under my foot. I went yesterday to the dr's and he took an xray. Everything is fine but it seems like I have lost a lot of weight, that the screw seems to be to long and that is the discomfort. He said he can go back in and take out the screws.
Now to me this is crazy, how can I becasue I have lost weight my foot has shrunk and the screw is to long?
Is this normal?
Please anyone your thoughts.
That does sound a little odd since you wouldn't expect your bones to change sizes with a weight change. It may be that you walk a little differently now that you are thinner. But if the xray showed the screw was sticking out beyond the bone and it's causing discomfort, you might as well have it taken out.
I am only 5 months post surgery, but I just had my screw removed on Thursday. My foot feels better already! It is of course tender where the incision was, but the pain on the bottom of my foot is gone. I asked to keep the screw after they removed it, and I must say I was surprised how long it was. It is probably close to an inch and a half long!
My total surgery time was 12 minutes, and I will be back to work on Tuesday. All in all, I feel like it was definitely worth it so far. If it is bothering you, I say just get it out.
I wonder if maybe its not that the screw sticks out more or anything like that but maybe since you lost weight you've lost a some fat padding around the screw that was insulating it before?
