Painful screw removal shots - Foot Problems Message Board

Does anyone know what the heck is in those shots the doc gives when you have screws taken out? I walked around too soon after bunion surgery which made two of my three screws come partway out of the bone. It was getting pretty painful, but my doctor wanted to leave them in for as long as possible. I got them out a few days ago. The doctor said it would be a quick, easy, one-stitch deal and not to worry. Ha ha. He did tell me that it wasn't the shot itself that was painful- whatever he was injecting (and he was evasive about it) was causing the intense, excruciating pain. Anyway, the whole hour was very uncomfortable, what with the tugging on the screws, the tourniquet, and a final, extra numbing shot which I shouldn't have been able to feel (but I did!) I have to get my other foot done soon, and I was wondering if it was possible to get general anesthesia should the next batch of screws need to come out. Thanks!

Bumping this back up from page 4 to the 1st page. Goodness! If you're still reading here, will you give us an update? Did you ever find out what it was he was injecting? Maybe you were allergic to it? Anyone else have such an experience?

No, I never found out what the shots were. A friend of mine had bone spur surgery recently, and she had the same shot- it was just as painful for her, too.

i joined this board sometime back in march, soon after my own bunionectomy, and read that many people who had to have those shots stated that they were painful. in fact, i don't think anyome commented that it wasn't painful. you can find them throughout these threads....but it's so hard to keep track now, there's just so many.
