Thumbs up

Hi!
I can only answer from personal experience, that yes your toes (at least big toe) will straighten out after surgery. The bunion is what causes the toe to slant toward the other toes, and so by shaving off the bunion, it will reduce the pressure and having the surgery will help straighten the toe back. It may not be completely straight, but will look a lot better. It just depends on the severity of the bunion, etc. I hope this helped, and good luck to you!

how about if your other toes slant a little like the next toe and middle toe. Not a lot like they dont' overlap or anything but just being pushed to the side cuz of the big toe?

Yeah, I'm right there with ya, cinderella!! I had the surgery 8/29 and my big toe curved in somewhat (dr. said he does that so it doesn't rub shoes) but it's a natural curve, not completely 100% straight. My issue is with my 2nd toe.. It was pushed over for so many years, it's now still "crooked" if you will, not horrible and when I stand it "falls in line" but just sitting it pushes over toward the 3rd toe. I'm interested in if this moves over as well... I hope so otherwise it looks a little funny... I know it's too soon to tell right now what all the "final product" will look like.. Thanks!

Hi, cinderella,
In my quest for healthy feet, I learned that there are many different causes for bunions, those ugly bumps. I had my right foot done on 6/3, because I have the very severe type of bunions that are due to loose tendons and joints within the foot. What happened was, my big toe became dislocated over a period of time. In my particular case, the bunion or "bump" that sticks out at the side is actually the bottom of the big toe joint. As part of the surgery, the doctor "popped" the big toe back into its proper straight position, and attached the tendons tightly so it would stay in place. I didn't need to have any "bump" shaved off, because once the big toe was pushed into its proper position, there was very little bump left, just that natural curve in the foot. Many people have simpler types of bunions that are more like bone spurs, where there actually is an extra bony growth. Those types of bunions get shaved down. Now for those weird toes that go crooked. Those are "hammertoes" and they need to be corrected separately. Just doing the big toe sometimes doesn't affect them. I needed to have my 2nd toe straightened, along with the rest of the bunion surgery (lucky me). I hope this all makes sense!
Be well,
Chris
