Foot Surgery for PF - Foot Problems Message Board

Hi All...new here. Maybe this questions has already been asked, but has anyone ever had surgery for plantar faccitis? And how was the out-come? I have had Pf for almost a year now, with a heal spur. My foot dr. dismissed me because she no longer knew what to do. I tried everything but surgery, (which she does not do), and I mean just about everything. I have orthotics which help some. She said she does not recommend it, because it can cause your arch to drop and then you end up having more problems. But I am at the point where I am just about willing to take that chance. I cant enjoy going anywhere that requires standing or walking. My job requires me to stand all day long which doesnt help matters either. I would like to know if anyone has had a successful out-come and how long did it take to re-coup. Thanks.

I have a fairly good friend who went under the knife for PF. Ended up worse than ever.
Could be a million success stories out there though.

Lets face it - feet surgery - healing can take a long time. Hard to give the things a rest that take our whole body weight. I can understand your frustration -definitely no fun hurting all the time.

I would talk to your foot doc & ask to speak with a few patients who have undergone the procedure - get their input - good luck !

I'd advise a second opinion. I had the lovely, lovely PF surgery, and I'm one of the lucky few who's had their arch drop, along with nerve damage, and am now facing either 6 weeks in a walking cast or more surgery or both. Unfortunately, my doctor didn't inform me of the possible complications, and stupidly, on my part, I didn't ask. I was told that the only downside of this surgery not being effective was the loss of 3 days on my couch. It sounded too good to be true, and it was. Have you looked at the shock wave treatment for PF? Ask your doc about that.

I agree with Fuscia-- it's really hard to recover from foot surgery too. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't do it. It's only the beginning of a long road, and it's not even a guarantee that I'll get all the use back. I hate to be so negative, but this is definately one side of the story.

I had surgery for PF on the 12th of this month. There isn't much to screw up. I has 2 stitches on one side of the heel and two on the other. I had pain to the point that i was crying after a day of standing on my feet. I just couldn't work anymore. I had pain all the time so I guess I didn't have a choice. I have some tenderness but It was basically pain free surgery.
