ingrown toenail, gout & PAIN! - Foot Problems Message Board

I had a marginal toenail ablation done to correct an ingrown toenail on my big toe. I was fine that day and the next. 2 days later, I could barely walk due to pain (at the joint where the big toe meets the foot). I ended up in the emergency room and was told it could be a case of gout. There was some inflammation of the joint (from the Xray). I'm on both an anti-biotic and an anti-inflammatory prescription right now, but it does nothing for the pain. I was told to just take Tylenol.

Two questions:
1. Can an ingrown toenail or the ablation bring on gout? I've never had any experience with gout before.
2. Can I do anything for the pain? I'm staying off my feet, but it's not helping much.

The answer to the first question is no. As to the second, that's hard to say. The pain may be from compressing the joint too much when the toenail procedure was done. It may be gout as well. Or it may just be from walking oddly as a result of the procedure (like holding the toe in an odd position, etc). If you pull on it and move it up and down, does that help? If so, just try doing that several times a day and see if it gets back to normal. And I would try Aleve instead of the Tylenol. It's better on joint pain.
