| Lapidus With External Hardware Fixation?? Anyone had this?
Hi all,
I am in Seattle, WA.
I have read some studies at Podiatry Today online, and read of 2 people on this board; discussing an external hardware fixation for the Lapidus bunionectomy which supposedly allows early weight-bearing, and no need for a cast. The podiatry studies (2 different ones) also describe an excellent non-union rate of ZERO.
Can this be true? If it's out there, I want to hear about it. I want to talk to patients who've had this specific procedure of Lapidus fusion with external hardware fixation. I need referrals to doctors who offer it, preferably in Washington State. The one doctor from the studies is in California.
After 27 years of bunions I am finishing my research to move forward with surgery. Mine are severe, IM angles 19 and 20 degrees, though I am young 37 y.o. and very very active. I've lived with orthodics, foot pads, toe spacers, and mostly worn sneakers, since my teenager years.
I am self-employed so must use savings for downtime.
