| Re: pain in ball of foot postop....
Hi wmcolors....my name has been changed on here...but, I posted several times regarding ball of foot pain/sesamoiditis (you'll see them if you scroll through the pages...). I found out it wasn't sesamoiditis but tendonitis. That was a huge relief! Ask your doc about it. I guess also ask about sesamoiditis, because that is where those two little bones are located. If it is terribly sharp pain and hurts more when you pull your toe up, it could very well be sesamoiditis.
Also, check your inserts. If you are doing a lot of activity, the inserts might not be fleixible enough or soft enough. If you are only wearing arch supports, then the one end closest to the ball of the foot might be pushing on the foot/toe and causing the pain...it support might not be positioned correctly and might be causing stress/strain/pressure on that area of the foot. I've tried three types plus met pads plus an arch support and my doctor and I are in agreement that inserts may not be for me. The orthotic inserts I tried were just too hard and inflexible for my foot and were causing extreme pain.
If it ends up being tendonitis, I got Celebrex for it which really helped. I also got some elastic type sleeves from Walmart that I wear when I walk and they have helped TREMENDOUSLY. I think the brand is Pedfix....look over by the foot help aisle and they are there...about $3.00 a piece.
Remember, your toe has been realigned so you will probably have issues in places you didn't before......
