any tips on transitioning to sneaker from boot? - Foot Problems Message Board

doc has me starting to wear my sneaker inside the house starting next tuesday. (still wants me to wear the boot outdoors)
He wants me to wear the dressing with "sticky tape". But do I put a sock on top of that? go w/out a sock?
and how does it feel to go to a bendable bottom after wearing the boot (surgical shoe) for 5wks?

I would go with wearing a sock (extra bit of padding). What is sticky tape?

I just started wearing tennis shoe on my surgery foot this past week and can tell you first and foremost - don't go overboard wearing the shoe for a whole day and walking too much. I did that my first day and had more pain and swelling. I've learned to up the amount of time each day I wear it by just a bit. I'm still wearing my boot about half the day and tennis shoe the rest. I do wear socks as it provides a bit of added protection and padding. Most of my steri-strips have fallen off but I am still covering the incision site on the bottom of my foot with band-aids just to add a little extra protection to an already tender area.

I have noticed that my leg is extremely weak when not in the boot so watch out for that (my calf and knee feel very weak and my knee feels like it is gonna buckle every once in a while). And you were off your foot and in a cast/boot longer than I was, so be careful with those first steps. Take baby steps.

Good luck and keep me updated how your foot feels. I'm kinda curious how your transition goes compared to what mine is like.

my wife broke her ankle in 4 places and has 2 plates and 9 screws. She went form the boot to a shoe called skechers. She could adjust the size to the fit her broken ankle and still be able to wear the same kind of shoe on the other foot.

What kind of surgery did you have? I had morton neuroma surgery on left foot and hammertoe surgery on right 3 weeks ago. I started out with boots on both feet and now I have a boot on the left and shoe on the right. I imagine I will be in them for at least 2 or 3 more weeks.

I will be glad to get back into sneakers, but I too am concerned as to how my feet will take to wearing shoes again. I don't want to get into them before my feet are completely healed and strong.

Stretch your calf/achilles' tendon. It could be kinda stiff.
