Foot Cramping Post Surgery - Foot Problems Message Board

Hi Everyone. I'm 5 days post op from surgery to remove a benign tumor from the ball of my right foot. Everything went very well and yesterday I went to the doctor and had the temporary cast removed. Now it is just wrapped in gauze and a ACE bandage. The foot is very bruised and slightly swollen with an approx. 4 inch scar on the bottom. This morning I started experiencing severe cramping of my middle toe. It feels like the toe is being drawn towards the ball of the foot. It's worse when I'm up (I can hobble around on my heel), but it's doing it at rest also. It's very painful. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I'm not sure if I should call the doctor. Thanks.

If it were me, I'd call the dr.'s office and at least speak to his nurse.

I am a nurse, and I would definitly recommend you calling your doctor.

I think it is just your muscles readjusting. I'm 5 months post op from a bunionectomy and still have cramping under my toes when I curl the toes down. I have no idea why they still do this, but they do....most annoying.

Thanks for responding. I talked with the nurse at my doctor's practice, and she said it's OK to experience cramping at this stage. If it continues, I'm to call again. My theory is that my foot is so swollen it's putting pressure on the tendons. I just realized my 3rd and 4th toes are numb as well. Is this a permanent thing, or could it possibly go away after the swelling goes down?
