Sharp Arch Pain - Foot Problems Message Board

For the past few weeks or so, I've been having these really sharp shooting type pains in the arch of my right foot. It's never anywhere else. It never bothers me to walk and there's no swelling or tingling or numbness. It's more in the front of the arch, not the back. It's not on the bottom. It only lasts about a second. Some days I don't even get it. Anyone know what this is?

do you get it while walking or just sitting still? I have to wear orthotics or else I get a sharp pain in my arch after walking a bit. But if it's occuring just standing still then it would be something different.

I usually just get it when I wake up. But then it'll go away.

Pain at the top of my arch was what brought me to the doctor. He looked at my feet and told me I had bunions. I told him I thought I was just getting "old lady feet" and he just looked back at me. I knew I had bumps, but didn't know they were bunions. I asked why I would have pain on the arch and he said my foot couldn't support my weight as it should, so other parts of the foot were trying to compensate. The moral of the story is, you may have pain in one spot, but it could indicate a problem in another part of the foot. It would probably be a good idea to have it checked out by your doctor.

If it is just in the mornings right when you get out of bed it sounds like plantar faciistis. You should make an appointment with a podiatrist or your normal general practitioner to have it checked out. There are quite a few stretches you can do before bed and right when you wake up in order to reduce the pain and swelling.
