continue PT??

Well after three months of pain (a cast, a boot, drugs, a brace, PT) it looks like I will have to surgery to correct my PTTD (a tear - possibly my third). The surgery is scheduled 6 weeks away! Yikes - too much time to worry about it. I have LOVED reading these boards for all the practical advice (I have three kids, a husband who travels and serve as a private tutor for homeschool kids - including my own, so the timing really STINKS!) anyway my question is.... Do I continue with PT twice a week before the surgery? Is it worth the investment of my time - or should I spend that time freezing casseroles, organizing the laundry room, getting me hair done, playing with my new pupppy, or enjoying my kids and the fun of summer. Thanks in advance - I have really appreciated everyone's advice.

Linda

Re: continue PT??

Personal opinion----I say discontinue the P/T---unless it is really helping your everyday mobility and really helps with the pain.

Did your doctor tell you to continue with the P/T?---in which case, you should probably do what the doctor suggests----but I would also say, in a way, that it's kind of like throwing money away at this point---BUT that's only if it's not really making a significant difference in how you feel on a daily basis.

You could do the exercises that they teach you, at home for the next 6 weeks----that's an idea. And probably not a bad one in any case, whether you discontinue the actual P/T with the therapist himself, just to help maintain some of the strength in your leg-----You probably already have some muscle loss with the treatments you have already been going through.

In any case----I wish you the best of luck----I hope this time you are healed for good!
Jane and I posted at the same time---The crutch lessons, if you need them, are a really good idea!

P.S.----Enjoy all the play time you can get --with the kids and the puppy!!

Re: continue PT??

Well, you could spend some of those PT sessions practicing your crutch techniques, building up the rest of your body in preparation, and figuring out the post-op plan.

Re: continue PT??

if your dr agrees that you should quit pt, then i say go for it. spend that time on you. go to the spa, have lunch and theatre. sorry you have to go through another surgery. i know what that feels like.

Re: continue PT??

I would check with your insurance and see if there are limits to the PT. You wouldn't want to use up your visits prior to surgery when you will definitely need them after surgery.
