2nd talar OCD surgery with architectural realignment! - Foot Problems Message Board

I have been on here a few other times, and finally have a date and specifics to my 2nd talar lesion surgery. I am writing to see if anyone has had what I've listed below done, and how it went. I am expecting quite a bit of pain, and the doc. is going to keep me in the hospital for a couple of days. I would appreciate any input!

Here is what he is going to do:
1. Osteochondral transplant (bone graft) from my left knee to be
placed in my ankle
2. Lateral Calcaneal translational osteotomy (cutting my heel bone
and moving it over)
3. Tendon transfer (Peroneal lungus tendon trasfer)
4. Plantar fascia release

The doc. says that all this needs to be done because of the
malalignment of my foot and the axial loading that is placed on my
inner ankle due to very high arches.

Wow, you have a lot going on. I'm getting ready for the OATS/Mosaicplasty procedure (the bone graft you are having, knee to ankle) as well as an allograft tendon used as a ligament reconstruction for ankle instability. I haven't gone thorugh with the surgery, it is in 12 days. You can find the OATS/Mosaicplasty thread to see what to expect after that procedure. When is your surgery date?

Hi Kris,

My surgery is on Sept. 26th so just under two weeks to go. I am stressing

Between trying to organize my kids lives while I won't be able to drive, and just finding out that my job is not secure b/c I don't average 20 hrs/week, I could use a vacation before going back under the knife!

Good luck with your surgery! Are you staying in the hospital or doing out patient? I learned a lot the first time around. When the nurse told me to keep my foot elevated, they mean it. It really helps with pain management. Do you have help at home?

I"m inpatient. 3 days in the hospital this time around. I'll have help at home for the first week, then I'm on my own. But, my kids are older. My oldest is 16 and my youngest is almost 8. It helps when they are self suffient.
