How long after bunion surgery can you go back to work, I have a job that I stand on tile for about 9 hours a day and was just wondering what my recovery time will look like. I have a heel spur and after surgery my heal is still burning, will inserts help or should I look into some other kind of therapy. my job won't let me come back until i get a clean bill of health from the doctor. Right now my foot is still in bandages and I have a screw in the toe. He keep giving cortisone in the heal but I don't think thats a long term answer. Some days after work I felt like I was walking on just bone. My job is important to me and was just wondering how long I will be out on disablility. Any advice will be greatly appreciated

it's different from person to person based on what procedure you had. I took two weeks off and I have a desk job. What day was your actual surgery? The heel spur is probably what is going to complicate things, was it on the bottom of your foot? I am 8 weeks out from my surgery and just now finding it comfortable to walk around for long lengths of time, but probably would have stood for standing around at 5-6 weeks.

I agree, about 6 weeks. I had my bunion surgery about 11 years ago and just found out that because of my surgery, I now have severe arthritis in my big toe and have to have a fusion done. Be easy on your foot!! The rest of your life depends on it! So, while I am sure you'll want and need to to back to work asap, be careful. Maybe start back part-time at 6 weeks and see how you feel after the first week of that. Good luck!

Why would you develop arthritis after bunion surgery unless they went into the joint? My podiatrist told me I should not develop arthritis because he did not go into the joint.

My mom was diagnosed with arthritis a year after her surgery, but the doc suspects she had it in her foot prior to the bunion surgery, but it didn't flare up until after the operation.
