hello, Does anyone have info on what meds are good for post op pain management for bunion surgery? And did anyone take an anti nausea med to counteract the side effects of the narcotic? Thanks, deedeeartist

I was prescribed the anti-nausea along with my pain meds but personally didn't feel a huge need for it. Also was prescribed percoset but found vicodin more effective. Obviously everyone reacts to medication differently, that was just my experience.

I was prescribed percoset and it worked well, but I was relieved to stop taking it after the first five days. The dosage can vary, so maybe a small dose would work for some. I had no nausea, but felt very antsy/anxious at the end which led me to stop. I think for me, it was great when I had a lot of pain, but I felt the side effects more when the need for pain control decreased.

I had a very radical bunion surgery about 11 years ago and had the WORST nausea, even constant vertigo, because of the pain meds. My very strong recommendations are Percocet for pain, and Promethazine or Zofran for preventing post-op nausea. Do not be a martyr
And try to make it through without any meds. Take care of yourself. You do not have to suffer terribly like I did! What I know now...

Hi there. It's been 3 weeks today since I had my bunion surgery & found immediately I could not tolerate most of the effective pain killers. Nausea & vomiting didn't respond to oral medications; but did with a rectal suppository. I now do best with just Lortab 5 mg , cut in 1/2. I also use a lot of ice on the foot. Good luck!
