Hi. I am new here and I have had 2 surgeries prior. I believe i have fluid in the joint as well as impingement where i had surgery last year as it would explain the immense pain i am in when walking and moving my ankle up and down and side to side. I have an appt in 2 weeks but i cant wait that long to find out. I know it says i have a susceptibility artifact but that's my sutures from 2 surgeries... thanks in advance for the help!!!

INDICATION: Status post Brostrom repair in 4/2007 and ligament
repair with tendon graft 5/2008.

TECHNIQUE: MRI of the left ankle was performed. Multiplanar
multisequence imaging was performed using standard departmental
protocol, without the use of intravenous contrast. No prior
similar examinations for comparison.

FINDINGS:

Bone: There is tunnel formation within anterior talus extending
to the fibula and the calcaneus. No fluid is seen within the
tunnel. The posterior limb of the graft is not well seen
secondary to susceptibility artifact. Susceptibility artifact is
present at the lateral aspect of the ankle, inferior to the
fibula. No evidence of acute fracture or dislocation. No focal
areas of abnormal bone marrow edema.

Tendons: Medial and anterior ankle tendon are intact. The
peroneus brevis tendon is not well seen at the level of the
tunnel.

Ligaments: Repaired ATFL graft appears thick. The anterior
tibiofibular ligament is mildly thickened, likely secondary to
prior injury.

Miscellaneous: Small ankle joint effusion with mild synovitis.
Sinus tarsi is unremarkable in appearance.

IMPRESSION:

1. Post-operative appearance consistent with given history of
Brostom procedure and ligament repair. No fluid is seen within
the surgical tunnels. The posterior limb of the graft is not well
seen secondary to susceptibility artifact.

2. Small ankle joint effusion with synovitis.

3. Thick appearance of the ATFL graft. Clinical correlation may
be helpful to evaluate for impingement symptoms.

4. Mild thickening of the anterior tibiofibular ligament, likely
secondary to prior injury.
