 Complications from Youngswick/non-union
I had a bunion removal and an youngswick ost. to correct an elongated and elevated 1st met. last September. Things did not seem to be the way I thought they should so I visited a different pod this week(I raised my concerns with my pod that did the surgery and he said everything was fine) and was told some interesting things that I wonder if anyone has faced. First, I was told that the bones of the 1st met were what he called a non-union-they still haven't healed and it has been 7 months. Next, I had NO downward bend of the big toe or as the pod said, it is basically bone locked. Upon reviewing my xrays, he said that the first met was shortened too much and the bones are hitting together and not able to move. His first concern was getting the non-union taken care and then said the too short met would have to be taken care of with surgery. I am wondering if anyone has dealt with this problem and what do they do to make a bone longer that has been shortened too much?
