I just wanted to post something good related to post-op recovery from a big toe fusion. As the title states, I'm 4 and a half weeks post op (NWB on crutches) and am quite pleased with how it's healing so far. About a week or so ago, I was experiencing odd sensations, lots of swelling, and soreness. Each day has gotten better and better. I have to ice it less, the sensations are diminishing, and there is less swelling. It was so good today, I actually drove myself to the store. When I got home, my foot wasn't even swollen and I didn't need ice. Usually I need to ice it if I've been up and about, but not today. I am so pleased with things so far. So my point is...to those who have had this surgery and are worried about their progress, just be patient. It will get better as long as you follow your doctor's orders and don't do too much. Earlier on, if I did too much, my foot would let me know, usually for days afterwards. I am amazed at how much vetter my foot feels, than it did even a week ago. So just take it easy, be patient, and know that it does get better.
