I had my ankle fused 6 months ago. I had my tibia fused to the talus. The talus is a bad bone to break. I broke the the dome of my talus. The top turned to sand instead of healing. My Os took a piece of my fibula to fill in between the tibia and talus so my leg is the same length. Than fused the fibula to the side of the tibia and talus. Most people I have found on boards are in a hard cast for 12 weeks with most of that time no weight on it. I was in a cast for three weeks then went to a boot. The boot came off at 14 weeks. I was not able to put weight on ankle for 10 weeks. It took about 4 months before I could really walk with out crutches. Keep in mind that my whole leg was shot from not being used for 7 months before the fusion surgery. It was a painful surgery with a long recovery, but I am now able to get back to my life. Yes I still have some pain and swelling but it gets less each week. So far I have not found anything the fusion prevents me from doing. I have been told running and jumping would be difficult, haven't tried yet. I am a teacher and on my feet all day and plan to return to skiing every weekend come winter. Good luck sounds like you are very limited now.
