| fractured bone not the worst of it?
So I have been having some pretty major pain in my ankle for the past three weeks. I've had chronic pain for years, but never as bad as this. I finally went to my primary doctor who found a fracture in my talus bone in my ankle. I then was referred to a foot doctor. The foot doctor said the fracture is very old and currently not the major problem going on right now because the pain is in a different location from the fracture.
He noted I have the worst pain on the outside of my ankle, in front of the main ankle bone that sticks out. I also have pain on the inside of the ankle that travels up the inside of my leg, into the shin area. I was able to raise up onto my toes almost all the way although it was quite painful. I was however not able to raise up onto my heels at all. I could not lift my toes off of the ground at all. He has now put me in an active ankle brace so I can keep my ankle moving front to back, but keeping from doing side to side movement. I am also to do calf stretching exercises.
I go to get re-evaluated in 6-8 weeks. I am in a considerable amount of pain and right now am very frustrated and having trouble understanding exactly what is going on. I've sprained my ankle seriously a number of times and have even torn tissues before. I'm thinking I should request he do an MRI when I go back?
What do you guys think. I think maybe an MRI would be a good way to evaluate exactly what soft tissues are affected.
I'm just curious as to what some of your doctors have done in situations like this. I've never actually gone to a foot specialist for my ankle problem so this is all new to me.
Thanks!
