Cheilectomy Left toe

I had surgery in November 2008 and am in more pain now than before surgery. The pain has gotten so bad that I cannot wear any type of shoe without struggling to walk and I cannot even get my foot into any kind of shoe with a heel. Any time the toe bends, I have a sharp pain. Yesterday, I got a second opinion and was told that this type of surgery is not always successful and that at this point my only option is to either live with the pain or to have the joint fused together. Has anyone else had a similar experience with the surgery and if so, what actions have you taken or are you living with the pain?
