I fractured my calcaneus about 6 and a half weeks ago. I had surgery on it almost 5 weeks ago. There are 4 screws and an external pin. My surgeon said that he will probably take the pin out in about 2 weeks from now. I'm still not weight bearing.
What I want to know is how long will it take me to heal? Will I be able to walk on it any time soon? When will I be able to walk around normally? I have no pain right now, have been off the pain meds for a long time now. I should also mention that I'm only 19 years old, hopefully with my youth on my side It will help quicken this process up. Any sort of help or comments are much appreciated!
I too fractured my right calcaneus 4 weeks ago. I have five external pins or wires (i really dont know how to call them) in my heel. Recovery takes time and is very individual. I have read most of old posts here (fractured calcaneus 1-11) and they are very informative. Try to read them if you have time. Weight balance usually starts from 8-12 weeks and is partial weigth balance in the beginning. As far as i understand it is a very serious injury and all we have to do is to be patient.
Sorry, if i have many mistakes as english is my third language.

Eight to 12 weeks is average to start weight-bearing. I had to wait 15 weeks since my fusion surgery was 8 weeks after my initial injury. You'll start with partial weight-bearing in a removeable walking cast (cam walker) for a couple of weeks and work up to full weight bearing with crutches. Then you'll gradually switch to one crutch or a cane. It took me about 5 weeks to full weight-bearing. Hang in there!

Desross4,
I have read several of your posts and responses to other calcaneous fracture people such as myself 6 weeks ago. I just wanted to tell you that I am so impressed at how generously you share information and insight. You are a blessing to others who are hurting. Keep up the great work the Lord has begun in you.
